APPLICATION, REGISTRATION, & GETTING ON A TEAM

How do I register?
You must be invited to participate by a team coach who has contracted with Champ Camp or Champ Camp Challenge to bring a team of their choice. Coaches distribute the registration information to their players.

Registration: Champ Camp and Champ Camp Challenge register on-line, click here. All participants must register Individually. Your team's # and Letter Code is required to access the program. This information is provided by your coach. You will have the choice of either paying on-line by credit card (Visa or Master Card) or by mailing in a personal check. If you choose to mail in your payment by check, be aware the registration is not complete until payment is received. Payment information will be provided in your Confirmation Letter. All checks received are processed as an 'e-Check', which deducts the amount out of the checking account the same as a debit transaction.

What are the Team Numbers and Letter Codes?
Coaches determine the housing status for their team when they contract with the Camp. Each team is then assigned a Number and Letter Code for accessing the on line registration program. Players are required to register and pay the corresponding camp fee as per the teams housing status determined by the coach.

Letter Code of 'C' or 'YL', is for commuting or hotel teams. Hotel accommodations and transportation to the games sites are the responsibility of the coach and team. A link to hotels providing discounted blocks of rooms to Champ Camp is posted on our site: Preferred Hotels

For teams with the Letter Code of 'HH', 'HT', 'YH' or 'YT' college campus housing, meals, and transportation to all game sites will be provided by Champ Camp. Teams are housed together.

When is the registration deadline?
Registration deadline is on or before June 30th, please refer to your confirmation letter. Once registered, participants receive a Confirmation Letter by email, detailing their registration information, ie: team, housing, account status.

Who is eligible to register?
Champ Camp Challenge: Our 'junior' camp accepts student-athletes entering grades 9 and 10.
Champ Camp: Accepts student-athletes entering grades 9-12, at the discretion of the coach.
Graduated seniors heading to college or PG are accepted, as well as PG graduates. The number of student-athletes no longer in high school is limited per team. No enrolled college students are accepted.

I've lost my team's code number and letter and can't get online to register. What do I do?
You must contact your coach for this information.

Who are some of the coaches so I can contact one to get on his team?
We do not give out the coaches' contact information. We will forward requests and your e-mail and/or contact information to the appropriate coach. If the coach is interested, he will respond to your request.

CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT

What time is check-in and where?
All Commuting (local/hotel) teams (Letter Codes of C or YL) are checked in by their coach prior to or at their first game on Wednesday.

Participants on teams with Letter Codes of HH, HT, YH or YT do check-in Individually at the campus where their team is being housed. This information is in your Confirmation Letter. If you haven't received or can't locate your Confirmation Letter, please contact us.

CHECK-IN times on Wednesday: 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Johns Hopkins and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Towson. See Directions for campus check-in locations. The games schedule for Wednesday begins at 3:00pm.

What time is check-out and where?
ALL TEAMS PLAY A GAME SATURDAY MORNING. CHECK-OUT is immediately after the participant's final game on Saturday morning. Commuting/hotel campers do not have an official "check-out". For those staying in a campus dorm, however, the Check-Out location is the same as Check-In on Wednesday. Saturday morning game times are not determined until Friday evening. Please check the Tournament Schedule page for game times and locations.

What is the Key/Damage Deposit for Dorm/Resident participants?
The key/damage deposit is required only by the Overnight campers staying at Hopkins or Towson.
As a Dorm/Resident participant whether you pay on-line by credit card or choose to mail in your camp fee, you must submit a separate $100.00 key deposit check. This check is not deposited, but returned at check-out when all keys are returned and the room and hall has passed inspection by Camp Staff. Refundable checks not returned at check-out will be destroyed by the Champ Camp office, NOT mailed back to you.

Again, this Key/Damage Deposit of $100.00 is separate, personal checks accepted. Please submit as soon as you have registered.

All checks are to be made payable to CHAMP CAMP, and mailed to: 101 Shipyard Way, Suite D, Newport Beach, CA 92663. ALWAYS include the Participant's Name and Team # on your check.

I need to leave the camp a day early. How do I check out and get my key deposit back?
Turn your key(s) into the dorm housing office. This is located on the first floor of all the dorms either at JHU or Towson. Champ Camp will be notified your key was returned prior to your leaving. Once your room and hall has also passed inspection on Saturday morning, we will destroy your check.

I didn't Check-Out at the desk and left with my keys. Can I mail them to JHU or TU and get my deposit back?
NO - PLEASE NOTE - If you failed to turn in your key(s) before the end of Check-Out on Saturday morning, they are considered 'LOST' by the campuses, and your key deposit will be expedited. Do NOT mail in your key(s). For security reasons, if keys are not returned by the end of Check-Out on Saturday, the locks are changed by the Universities.

I will be late checking in. What is the procedure for a late arrival?
Advanced notice is required. Please contact us. IF, on Wednesday, you are unexpectedly arriving late for a Check-In at either JHU or TU, please call 949-648-8800. This is an emergency number available during camp only.

I will be late picking up my son. How long can he stay at the check out site? Who will stay with him until I get there?
Champ Camp Staff will be on site at Johns Hopkins University and Towson University until 1:00PM. Although the campus security and University staff will be available, they are not responsible for any Champ Camp or Champ Camp Challenge participants who are late in leaving. Unless approved by Champ Camp and the Universities, all teams and participants are to be OUT of their rooms by noon.

I will arrive the day before camp begins. Can I stay at Hopkins?
No. Please contact us at info@champcamp.com for information.

I need to stay in Baltimore the night after check out. Can I stay at Hopkins?
No. Please contact us for information.

MEDICAL

What if I need to talk to your medical staff at check-in?
A member of our certified athletics training staff will be available at check-in.

Do I need a full physical?
We no longer require a full physical to attend Champ Camp. We do require, however, a parent or legal guardian to acknowledge the prompt for our Waiver & Release within the on-line registration process. This 'signature' also represents acceptance of responsibility that the participant is in good physical condition to be a competitor. All participants are required to have this 'signature' in order to be eligible to play.

I'm just getting over an injury and, even though I can't play, I still want to come and be part of my team. Can I still attend?
That is up to you and the team coach. For overnight campers, the fee remains the same as for those playing on the team.

I have food allergies. Who do I talk to about my meals?
Please e-mail your question to info@champcamp.com. We will alert the cafeteria and inform you of any special procedures.

Do you have medical supervision at the games? What is your injury procedure?
We hire a certified sports medicine staff. These Trainers are on site at every game. Injuries are evaluated by the on-site staff and their emergency protocol is followed. Parents are contacted when advanced treatment is required (transportation to hospital or follow-up treatment at home). PLEASE consult the Trainer on the field should you have any concerns BEFORE heading back to your hotel or dorm.

GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CHAMP CAMP CHALLENGE

The Champ Camp Challenge is for junior, or rising 9th and 10th grade, teams. The Challenge Camp is run concurrently with Champ Camp, also having a championship game on Saturday. ALL that is noted in the GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT CHAMP CAMP applies to the CHAMP CAMP CHALLENGE as well.

GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT CHAMP CAMP

How is the camp set up?
High School and Select Travel Team coaches bring regional all-star teams or their high school teams to compete for a mythical national championship. These coaches select the competitors for their teams.
The tournament consists of 72 teams. Teams are divided into 16 divisions. Games begin Wednesday afternoon, following check-in. Teams play one game on Wednesday, three games on Thursday, three games on Friday and one game on Saturday morning.
The winners of each division are in the playoffs, which begin Friday. Teams not making the playoffs continue to play their final game on Saturday morning.

What does "being on a team" mean?
Coaches contract to bring their team of choice to compete.

How do I get on a Team?
Champ Camp maintains a list of independent players who want to participate in the event, but are not part of team contracted to come to the camp. This list is made available to coaches who find they need to replace a position, or are looking to augment their team. Players will be contacted within just a few weeks of camp if a position becomes available. To be added to this Independent List, please contact us for information.

How many games do we play?
Each team will play a minimum of six games. Games begin Wednesday afternoon. Teams play one game on Wednesday, two games on Thursday, two games on Friday and one game on Saturday. Teams making the championship will play a total of seven games.

What time is the first session?
The Tournament Schedule will be available a few days before camp begins. The schedule for the 1st round of games played on Wednesday begins at 3:00pm.

What time and where are the practices on registration day?
Champ Camp does not provide practice opportunities. Check with your team coach to see if he has made special arrangements.

What team won the championship last year? Who won in previous years? Who will be there this year?
Please visit this page to see last year's champions, and this page to see this year's teams.

Given my son's experience, do you think this is a good camp for him to attend?
Champ Camp consists of a very high level of competition. Only you and your son know whether or not it is appropriate.

Are spectators allowed at all the games?
Yes. Allowed and encouraged. Schedule of games, listing of sites and directions available at www.champcamp.com.

When do I get my jersey and the camp schedule?
Schedules will be available at registration and at www.champcamp.com a few days prior to camp. Please take a look at your team’s first game before coming to check-in.  Jerseys are distributed by your coaches either at check-in or at your first game.

Where can I find directions to all the field?
Please visit our directions page.

Where can I find the game schedule and up-to-the minute results?
Please visit the schedule page.

TRANSPORTATION

What transportation is provided to and from the camp on check-in and check-out days? What is the fee?
Transportation Service - Participants are responsible for their own transportation to Check-In for Champ Camp on Wednesday, July 13th and from Champ Camp following Check-Out on Saturday, July 16th. Please use only BWI Airport and the BWI Amtrak Station.
We have found Super Shuttle to be reasonable and consumer friendly.
Super Shuttle: 1-800-258-3826 / www.supershuttle.com

Teams traveling together are responsible to secure their own transportation to and from BWI when checking in and out of camp. Champ Camp only provides transportation for teams being housed at JHU and Towson WHILE CAMP IS IN SESSION.

Use only Baltimore Washington International (BWI) airport. Arrivals should be between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, if possible. Same for Amtrak - use only the Amtrak station at BWI.

All teams play their final games on Saturday morning. Start times are from 8:00am - 11:00am. The tournament schedule for Saturday isn’t posted until Friday afternoon. We apologize for the inconvenience of the challenge this presents in scheduling your departure flight. We suggest no return flight should be scheduled before 4:00pm on Saturday. BWI airport and Amtrack are @40 minutes from Baltimore. We don't want you to miss your game on Saturday morning, to be safe, the later your departure time, the better. Again, participants are responsible to arrange their own transportation to Champ Camp on Wednesday and from the camp following check-out on Saturday.

There is no service or rooms available before check-in on Wednesday or following the check-out day on Saturday. If you need to arrive prior to check-in, it is your responsibility to secure lodging. We suggest any of the airport hotels from which a shuttle can be taken to the main terminal for taxi hires. Again, you are responsible for securing your own travel to and from the airport. Champ Camp does not provide this service.

Is transportation provided while at camp if I'm a Commuting (Local/Hotel) camper?
No transportation is provided by Champ Camp for Commuting (Local/Hotel) participants. Please check with your team coach.

Who else is attending from my area so we can car pool?
In order to protect personal privacy, Champ Camp will not give out this information. Please check with your team coach.

If I'm flying in to BWI or arriving by Amtrack, alone, without a team, how will I get to the camp?
Champ Camp doesn't provide transportation to or from the BWI airport or Amtrak stations. Please see the SHUTTLE INFORMATION below.

Check-In at either JHU or Towson DIRECTIONS are listed HERE.

How do I get to the airport or train station if I leave a day early?
Super Shuttle information below, or the housing offices at both JHU and Towson can give you the local number for hiring a taxi.

What will I miss on Saturday if my flight/train leaves before 2:00 pm?
You risk missing your Saturday game. Saturday morning games times are not determined until after round 7 games on Friday night. Travel time to BWI is approximately 40 minutes, given new air travel security measures it is recommended travelers be at the airport 2 hours prior to departure. We strongly suggest your departure not be before 3:00pm on Saturday, if possible. For those traveling by Amtrak, we suggest departure times after 1:00pm.

These are hotels offering special rates for participant teams and families attending Champ Camp the The Champ Camp Challenge. You are responsible for making your own hotel accommodations. These room blocks will only be held until JUNE 12TH. We suggest you reserve your hotel accommodations early. Baltimore will have many events at this time in the summer and hotel rooms may be increasingly difficult to secure.

Champ Camp's list of preferred hotels for 2016 can be found here.

FEES AND POLICIES

What are the fees?
Please visit our Registration and Cost page for this year's info.

How do I make a fee payment outside of the on-line registration?
If you've selected the payment option to 'pay by check' when prompted within the on line registration program, your Confirmation Letter will explain to whom and where to make that payment. If you need to make any additional payments, please contact us for details on how to either submit a check or pay by credit/debit.

CHECKS - All checks are to be made payable to CHAMP CAMP, and mailed to: 101 Shipyard Way, Suite D, Newport Beach, CA, 92663. ALWAYS include the Participant's Name and Team # on your check. All checks are processed as an 'e-Check', deducting the funds from your account the same as a debit transaction.

If we find a replacement for our son who is canceling, why don't we get a full refund?
Certain processing fees and deposits are incurred for each registered applicant. Our policy is designed to minimize the impact to both parties in the event of a player's cancellation. Please refer to the explanation posted on our Registration and Cost page. You may, of course, contact us for further explanation.

Why should I be penalized by your refund policy if I have an injury preventing me from attending the camp?
We have certain processing fees and deposits we pay for each applicant. Despite your advance cancellation, we cannot recover the fees.

I was injured the first day and had to leave. What will my refund be?
Our cancellation policy is very clear. As of the first day of camp, we provide no refunds. You may, of course, contact us for further explanation.

My doctor says I might be okay by the time camp starts. How long can you hold my spot?
We can hold your spot until a few days before camp, but you will be subject to our refund/cancellation policy. You must also consult your coach as he may need to replace your position at an earlier time. You may, of course, contact us for further explanation.

Because I'm letting you know I might have to cancel due to an injury what will my refund situation be?
Full payment is due with your registration. Our refund policy is designed to minimize the impact to both parties in the event of a cancellation. Please see our Refund Policy.

Instead of a refund, will you hold my deposit for a spot in next year's camp?
No.

Can you apply the fees I've already paid to my replacement?
No. Refunds are issued directly to the player who is canceling and ALL applicants must register Individually, processing their own fees at that time to participate.

I can't afford to pay the whole fee up front. Can we set up a payment plan?
Yes, but only under special circumstances. Please contact us at your earliest convenience.

FEES RECEIVED LATER THAN DEADLINES
Fees submitted late can compromise a participants listing in the COACHES BOOKLET, and if staying in a dorm at JHU or TU, can compromise your being housed WITH your team.

RECRUITING

What colleges will be represented there?
Champ Camp traditionally will have over 100 Div I, II and III colleges represented during the course of the event.

Do the college head coaches come to see the players at the camp?
In most cases, yes. Some schools send assistant coaches.

How do coaches know who you are?
Champ Camp provides each college coach in attendance with a COACHES BOOKLET. This booklet includes each team's roster with jersey number, name, position, high school, garduating year, and direct player contact information. The roster information is confirmed by the teams' coaches.

How can I be sure that I will be seen by all the coaches?
You cannot. We rotate teams, times and game locations to afford everyone the best opportunity for exposure to the college coaches in attendance. Our goal is to provide a high level of competition and a forum for college coaches to view players and games. Champ Camp is powerless to determine what coaches watch which games and players.

Will playing time be fair?
We encourage all team coaches to be fair and equitable with playing time, however, we provide them the autonomy to coach their respective teams however they deem fit. Champ Camp is a very competitive environment and this is a question more appropriately asked of your team coach before you choose to attend.

Do I get to talk with any of the college coaches?
No formal environment is set up for contact. Contact with specific coaches should be initiated by the participant. All contact is subject to NCAA regulations.

Will I be breaking any recruiting rules by talking with a coach while at camp?
Contact with specific coaches should be initiated by the participant. All contact is subject to NCAA regulations. For more information visit http://www.ncaa.org/

If I meet with a college coach during the camp is that considered my "visit"?
All contact is subject to NCAA regulations. For more information visit http://www.ncaa.org/

How can we receive a review from any of the college coaches who saw my son play?
Please contact the college coach directly.

DORMITORIES & DINING HALLS

Are the dorms air-conditioned?
Yes.

Do I need bed linens, towels and a pillow?
Linens and pillow are provided at both JHU and Towson. Towels are provided at JHU but not at Towson. In either case, we suggest you bring 1 or 2 towels from home.

I am attending the camp on a Day/Local team. Can I still get a room?
We do not have rooms available in the dorms for Commuting team campers. Please check with your team for the accommodations secured by your coach or team manager. To see the Preferred Hotels, please go to our link for these Preferred Hotels for 2016, here.

How much spending money do I need?
That is an individual decision. The average is between $50 - $100 for the weekend.

Is there a 'Camp Store' with equipment, etc.?
NO 'store' is maintained on either the JHU or Towson campuses. Champ Camp does have tents throughout the event for purchasing Champ Camp merchandise, however. Please come prepared with your OWN playing equipment, none sold at the event.

How do we get food/drinks between campus meals?
There are vending machines and snack bars open at both JHU and Towson. Both campuses have pizza delivery nearby. We suggest you bring extra sports drink to keep in your room and transport to games.

How are the campers supervised in between games and at night?
Team coaches, camp staff members, University security and private security all supervise the dorms. Please be aware the Champ Camp staff housed to supervise at both JHU and Towson, are coaches who may possibly be there in a recruiting capacity as well. Any inappropriate behavior will be reported to ALL coaches in attendance.

Are video recordings of the games available?
Champ Camp does not provide videographers, however, some of our participating teams have used one of the following companies:

3. Active Image Media at www.activeimagemedia.com or 610-328-3456
